Attorney General Pam Bondi has fired at least 20 prosecutors and support personnel who helped the investigations of former special advisor Jack Smith to President Donald Trump, said familiar sources with the ABC News Saturday matter.

The upper leadership in the department had already expelled most of the remaining prosecutors associated with probes.

A DOJ spokesman did not immediately respond to ABC News comments.

Some of the employees who have been identified through the “weapon work group of the Justice weapon” may not have had any important role in promoting the prosecutions and were the support staff, the litigation attendees and the sheriffs of the United States, according to the sources.

The shots have sent a chill through the rest of the professional workforce of the Department of Justice, which had previously been shocked by dramatic purges and reallocations of officials in the early days of Trump’s presidency.
